Five Ways to Reduce Anxiety and Raise Hope
With the 24/7 news coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic updating us every five minutes with more bad news it’s easy to get sucked into downward negative vortex. Because our emotions are contagious, if you’re in a state of anxiety, those vibes will be spread to those around you which could be your kids or you partner, their anxiety will add further fuel to what you’re already experiencing.
As Easter approaches, we have the perfect opportunity to spend some time with our nearest and dearest either together or virtually, to reflect on our feelings, acknowledge their presence and determine what will help us all to feel a little bit better.
Finding a silver lining to the Covid-19 storm cloud
Despite the barrage of doom and gloom and scary images of people on ventilators and health care workers gowned up in white suits, what I’ve noticed recently has been a huge surge in human kindness and compassion. Have you seen this too?
We’re looking out for each other in ways not witnessed for a very long time. We’re checking in the elderly and vulnerable in the community. We’re digging in deep to help out with donations to Foodbank and showing a willingness to contribute to the greater good and
complying with the request to stay home because that act of kindness works to keep others safe.
Whether singing to each other from our balconies (as in Italy) enjoying a virtual workout with Joe Wicks from the UK, saying thank you to the harassed person at the supermarket check-out or sharing a toilet roll with a friend in need, sharing that moment of kindness does us all a power of good.
How to boost your mental wellbeing with gratitude
In turbulent times when facing a global pandemic, jobs are at risk, there’s talk of a depression and you’re stuck at home wondering when life as we knew it might return, it’s easy to overlook how finding the positives and asking “what’s possible?” can keep you well and mentally strong. This is where gratitude can play a vital role.
Gratitude. It’s defined as the quality of being thankful; a readiness to show appreciation and to return kindness.
And gratitude is a powerful weapon. It not only raises spirits, it works to keep you physically healthy and boosts mental wellbeing. Its magic being its ability to change your brain.
Crisis – What Crisis? The Tenacity of the Human Spirit
A friend of mine has likened 2020 to science fiction. I wish it were. There have been many mornings recently where my first thought has been the wish that the turn of events of the last three months were just a bad dream I’ve woken up from.
Instead each morning has brought more news of urgent changes being introduced in an attempt to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are dealing with immense threat not just to our wellbeing, but to our jobs, our businesses and our financial security. Weddings have been postponed, holidays cancelled and visits to ailing elderly family members now problematic. We’ve been asked to work from home, to change how we meet and greet each other and to be prepared for worse to come.
This is where Tenacity with a capital T and coming together as a global community will see us through these dark times and there are a number of things that can help.
