Want to help someone? Shut up and listen

At TEDxPerth last Saturday the speaker who made the biggest impact and had the most important message for me, was Ernesto Sirolli who shared his thoughts about how to make the biggest difference for others. Based on his own experiences as a young man providing Aid Work in Zambia he reveals how stupid and naeive we are, how many mistakes we inadvertently make and how much money we waste because of the one thing we so often forget to do: to listen.

His latest talk is not available yet. However this is the TEDx talk he delivered in Christchurch in 2012.

After you have watched it ask yourself:

How much more could businesses, education systems and governments achieve if they stopped, just for one moment… and listened?

How much more insight, innovation and brilliant new ideas could be captured and implemented by harnessing the passion and strengths of those we listen to?

What difference could we make on a global scale by coming together to do good, that is needed and wanted?

Entrepreneurs he said, don’t attend community meetings or government think tanks – they are out in the community, doing what needs to be done.

In a world so often lacking wisdom, courage and magnificent moustaches, a little dose of Ernesto provides all this with humour, passion and conviction. He is truly Ernesto The Wise.

Enjoy.
